12 years later and the web continues ... every wedding I have done over the years has at least a few lines here. Things are looking busy this year lots of brides and grooms and so much fun. Must get on top of instagram, it's where everything seems to be happening at the moment. In fact my web has told me that I have posted too many pictures and won't let me put any more up so all wedding memories are there.
So the year has started and what a way to start. This was intimate ... 15 or so, all the way from Os ... close family only but wow. Looked like it was going to rain, always a problem at this time of year, but in the end the only precipitation came from Harry. Altogether a great start to the year and at a venue I didn't know before: Mas Pigot (http://www.maspigot.com/). All very good!
And so we get to April, a couple of wedding this month and where better to start than at the Xalet del Nin in Vilanova. Matt and Ellie chose well, aided by Jennifer from Crystal Events and everything was just about perfect ... lots of very positive feedback when all was done and that is always great. A glorious spring day all in all ... and tomorrow more!
Hitchcock once said ... never work with animals or children ... the same could be said for Sarah and Taylor ... but in the end we had a laugh. You see Sarah and Taylor are from the States and are true hippies! They are a great couple but a tad disorganised. I finally got info from Taylor yesterday and during the ceremony I had to be light on my feet ... but it all went perfectly and everyone was thrilled with the result, especially the (very) happy couple! BTW ... this was wedding number 400 since starting the web!
So we have made it to May and the busiest month of the year! Nathan and Charlotte were fabulous and really enjoyed their wedding, there was lots of laughter and general happiness, fun vows, fun reading from sister Sophie, all in all a great start to the month, beautifully organised by Val and in the ever lovely Casa Felix with Jane smiling on and keeping everything crossed that all went well ... when I left it certainly seemed that way.
After 402 wedding since starting this blog way back when you will understand that it is difficult to come up with a first ... today I had one ... a welcome in English, Spanish, Catalan, Danish and Arabic ... but also in Kurdish!!!! That is a first.
It was a beautiful bi-lingual wedding in English/Spanish at the Castell d'Empordà, my first wedding there this year but not my last. A lovely couple who I had met a few months ago on the coast here since Erik is half Danish half Catalan and Sanaria is Iranian/Iraqui/Kurdish/Danish and so much more.
Laura and Andrew originally planned their wedding for 4 years ago but then things happened ... not only the ones we all know about but also their 2 children. However they finally made it in the ruins of Mas Torroella, a new area for weddings that they have been working on for a while and have officially opened this year. All was perfect, organised by Creative & Love ... all went perfectly.
They have been an item since they were 14, done it all together and still going strong! The most complicated thing about today's wedding with Val in the Casa Felix was his name. Sergio wanted Sur-jee-oh ... that was difficult but I think I managed it! Lovely couple ... lovely day.
As I arrived at La Baronia, their venue, the rain started to come down and it did so for the next 45 minutes but Meritxell, their wedding planner, from The Gathering, remained firm ... let's just wait a little longer and see what happens. By the time they got to their vows they were flooded in sunlight and everything was perfect. China meets Spain somewhere in the EUA and this is what happens ... all perfect.
What a smashing couple, so many smiles and so much fun. Their baby daughter Evie was very much with them until not and we all feared for the weather but in the end it was perfect. This is a wedding that was to have happened back in 2020 ... May 20th to be exact ... it has taken 4 years but it was fabulous. they married in Can Ollé de la Guàrdia, my first time there and quite a place with perfect views of Montserrat. All together a pleasure!
Wow ... what a wedding. Masia Cabellut is so beautiful you really can't go wrong and with Annabel and Frank and the Dutch and the Americans and a fair few friends from Barcelona they didn't. Here Frank and Annabel made it very clear to me that they wanted something fun, they wanted to laugh and their friends and families to laugh with them. Can I just say the that there was no aisle so nobody could roll in it but if there had been they would have! Once again ... a joy from start to finish! Oh yes and of course I bought wine, as usual, from the brilliant Robert who runs Masia Cabellut!
They married in the Gran Villa Rosa, an outlandish but wonderful house in Vilanova ... built about a hundred years ago and quite something. Their page boy and girl did the readings and Tom managed to dress his best man and 6 ushers in velvet smoking jackets ... they looked great but it was hot!!!! Neelam was great and all went perfectly.
Imogen and Ben married with the breeze coming off the sea in the Xalet del Nin ... what a place. Perfectly organised by Anna from Just Married Barcelona. A great couple and everything was very much enjoyed.
Sinead and Noel did it! Once again organised by Val and once again at Casa Felix. I loved their sense of humour, there were lots of laughs throughout and all was just as good as it gets. They had a great crowd of friends who cheered me down the aisle ... a new experience for me. Loved how Noel fell for Sinead because she was a red head ... something he blames on Julia Roberts and insists is very practical ... you can always find her in a crowd.
They married in the ever lovely Casa Felix, owned by Jane, under the watchful eye of Val the first planner I ever worked with so many years ago. All was perfect, with some really great singing by Sophie's brother (also) called Tom.
Elena and Mo married in This Must be the Place ... all perfectly organised by The Gathering ... altogether good stuff. Very international crowd but this is what happens when you meet online ... not Tinder ... they both worked for FB in Dublin! Smashing couple bring together very diverse cultures and friendship groups ... good stuff!
Kat and Luke were a great couple, we had loads of contact before the wedding and what's more on the day itself ... before, during and after the ceremony. They came all the way from Brooklyn to Segas ... a tiny village in the Lluçanes, pretty close to where I live. It really was pretty much perfect!
I think that Lucy and Johnny had the wedding that they wanted ... lots of laughs, lots of chat, lots of music and a fair few kisses.
This wedding was fabulous ... a truly international affair and what's more held in Estella's family's home in Spain: el Convent de Vila-Rodona check out the pics ... it is well worth it. The couple gave me loads of info, enjoyed their ceremony and all was very good ... in fact it was one of those weddings that was a pleasure from start to finish ... as the majority are.
We met a few months ago in Barcelona and had a great time together ... that made all the difference ... they loved their wedding, as did I. A great couple and fabulous mum of Alex also at our meet. Organised by Val and in the Casa Felix ... what more could you ask for!
Swiss German meets Ukraine ... and what's more in Bratislava ... when it has to happen ... it has to happen. They married next to the beach at the Castell de Tamarit and all seemed very happy.
Yehhhhh ... Lauren and Jordan did it. In the morning it poured, there was thunder and lightening ... and then there wasn't. One of those fabulous summer storms that vastly over-rates itself. In fact by the time their ceremony came along it was very very hot and humid ... but much appreciated I feel. Organised by Barcelona Brides and in the every lovely Casa del Mar in Sitges.
Harriet and Josh married in Masia Cabellut and all was, as usual, perfect. There were a few drops of rain during the ceremony but nobody was worried about that, in fact I think all were pleased not to have that July sun blazing down on us. Josh was worried that Harriet would become the latest ever bride as they re-did her hair. I kept telling him that 45 minutes in Spain is far from "late". All joyous!
This was very much a three hander ... Jessica and Josh and their daughter. Josh told me that just two weeks ago she had been a flower girl in the wedding of some friends ... but today was simply too much for her. Something to keep in mind ...
What a lovely couple ... they have a bar, and that's not why I think they are lovely, they are sporty ... not that either ... they have a great dog called Reggie ... but that's not the reason either ... so why? I don't know why but today was special, great family, great friends, great place ... smashing couple.
Wow ... this was a hot one, in the woods by Mas Terrats ... beautiful. Bi-lingual wedding Catalan/English, a lovely couple and all just about as good as it gets.
I have no idea how that happened but for some strange reason we never quite managed our chat before the wedding. You would never have known however ... it was the first thing Jess said to me after their lovely wedding, felt like we had known one another for ages. So the wedding was all perfect, after having had a month off more or less it was goods to get back in to the swing of things. Still 17 more to go this year so ... looking busy.
It has been a while since I was in the Marimutra in Blanes, the botanical gardens ... just the most perfect place with only one drawback ... very humid. What's more while you are up there doing the ceremony you can hear those below, those in the sea ... being cool. Nonetheless Kym and Phile enjoyed their wedding, as did family and friends judjing from the feedback. A total sucess I would say ... and beautiful ... don't forget to go to Instagram to see the images and videos.
Megan and Daveed!!!! That is how he spelt it and was so pleased when Megan told her parents how to say it. It was an international affair organised by Val at the Casa Felix and went just about as well as it could have gone!
Julia and Dani was a bilingual wedding and what a wedding! Organised perfectly, as always by the ever wonderful Mireia of Coc & Carl, who I married many many moons ago. They held their ceremony in La Farinera de Sant Lluis ... quite a place, though there were about 130 guest the vast majority were staying in the Farinera between the hotel itself and organised "glamping". Julia and Dani were a joy from start to finish and it is Julia's smile that I have etched on my mind! A joy.
They made it, there were moments when it looked like this might not happen but in the end all was perfect. The Convent of Blanes is a joy and Mireia from Coco and Carl too ... basically what could go wrong? Nothing!
It really looked like it might rain but finally all was just perfect for Carly and Greyson ... a lovely couple who were so totally in love!!!!! There vows lasted 5 minutes each but were great. Lovely readings by Greyson's sister (in Spanish and English) and Francesca, a friend of Carly. All was done in the Xalet del Nin, down next to the beach in Vilanova i la Geltru ... organised by Val ... to perfection.
I almost feel like saying that this was the first wedding of autumn! This morning we were at 8º but by the afternoon 24º/25º ... just about perfect ... we have made it to the end of summer. This was a really fun wedding ... lots of laughs, described by an uncle who collared me on my way out as "epic, truly epic". No bad eh. Kirstie said she felt so at ease and Ben was clearly having fun. Altogether great!
That was Liza as in Minelli and Gil as in Scott Heron ... did my head in but managed it when finally his father came to sign the certificate ... Gilberto ... was that as in Gil or possibly more of a Spanish Gilberto no ... it was Brazilian!!!!! But we made it in the end, luckily it stayed pretty good weather wise, it seems to have got very cold very quickly at the end of this summer! The couple were lovely, all organised by Marta at Bubble and Bells ... all good. Tomorrow off to Mallorca!
I usually do a few wedding a year outside Catalunya, that can be in Madrid, France, Valencia, the Balearic Islands or even as far afield as Morocco. This year there is only one outside Catalunya, in Mallorca and what's more in La Fortaleza, I strongly suggest you google that ... it is out of this world. Arielle and Kemal wanted a short ceremony, they wanted to have no vows or readings and, if I am being honest, they didn't send me too much info. In fact I met Kemal for the first time at the alter. But with what they sent me I did some magic and made a ceremony to be remembered ... lots of people came and chatted afterwards and were very complimentary... all organised by Mille Papillons. It was madness and I was in 2 taxis for 2.5 hours, two planes, 10 hours on the island and in bed by 1am ... but it was good.
Ola and Aggy first married last weekend and then again today. You see Aggy's mother had to have an important operation in Luxembourg so we did an online wedding there and then this one today. It was great ... a real joy, mother was also present online as were many others in person. Lots of fun, lots of laughs, a few tears ... in the Almiral de la Font and organised by Val.
Katie and Calum, USA meets London boy! They married in the glorious Masia Cabellut and had a great crowd ... all organised by Linda at Better Together ... just about as good as it gets.
Tara, Mike and their son Archer ... what a team! This was a great wedding, a big crowd who really wanted to be involved, lots of fun and laughter throughout with parents and step parents all really involved not to mention flower girls, children everywhere and all in all a good day at the Castell d'Emporda!
That was fun, Belgium meets UK and lots of laughs, smiles, a few tears and a beautiful autumn afternoon had by all. Shannon had promised to snort but it never got quite that far! All done in the Castell d'Emporda ... I have "moved" there to end the year.
We met earlier in the year and had a great chat and coffee in Girona, it was good to have met before the big day, not essential but good. They had a lovely crowd who really enjoyed the ceremony. I am writing this the day after, yesterday unfortunately was dark, overcast and eventually rained a little but they soldiered through and thoroughly enjoyed their big day!
So this was a first ... Lizzie and Nick, Wednesday's couple, were at this wedding!!! I married the best man 7 years ago and one of the grooms men 2 years ago! It is the world or cycling in and around Girona. Hannah and Sam were fabulous and the entire thing was very much enjoyed. The morning saw rain but it was dry for the ceremony. All perfect!
... 2024 ... DONE. So we went out with a bang ... or at least one of Kick's groom's men did ... my first feint ever during a wedding. They married in the lovely Castell de Sant Gregori and all was perfect ... though wet! A day to be remembered.
