So we have made it to 2022, things are slowly but surely getting back to normal, and the weddings are coming in ... about 50 on the books so far, some new, many from last year and even some from the year before. It will be fabulous so ... if you want a fun, different, meaningful wedding ... get in touch.
Finally, the ball has started rolling once again, and what a wedding ... East met West, originally in Philidelphia and for the wedding in Cortal Gran. Quite frankly it was a joy to be back on the job after what seems like an eternity of waiting for things to happen. This is just the start with another 3 to come this month and then we are in full swing. Both Massa and Eduardo seemed thrilled with their ceremony, as did many of the guests ... a joy! All perfectly organised by Neus Cirera.
Just the 4 of us but when a wedding ends like this one dancing to "Lovely Day" you know it was great. Kate and Josh planned their very own special day at the Laberint Park in up town Barcelona and it was all pretty much perfect. Having said that most of the planning seemed to be done by their fabulous photographer Heidi, she contacted me. It really was a pleasure.
Third time lucky or what, Janine and Derek started planning their wedding with me way back when in 2019 ... then we all know what happened so today was a victory of love over circumstance. It was fabulous, a great rowdy Irish bunch made it all the better and finishing on "Baby I'm Yours" was as good as it gets. Biel, my son, played them in and out gloriously, they were very happy and the venue has to be seen to be believed "Gran Villa Rosa".
Some worrying moments this morning when it looked like rain but in the end the day behaved, as did Emily and Michael. Beautiful vows, had soooo much information from them that the wedding wrote itself but everyone seemed pleased as was Mireia my wonderful planner at CocoandCarl and their venue, Mas Torroella, was perfect.
This couple lives in Canada and their biggest problem is they support different ice hockey teams, that apparently can be serious in Canada, but it really felt like the only sort of problem they were going to have! Once again at the beautiful Mas Torroella, all went like a dream.
Fabulous couple, Irish, living in Holland ... a great crowd in the Castell d'Emporda and all very much enjoyed. The Tramuntana blew and blew but they were stoic. The music by Swite Duo was great and all was as good as it gets.
A glorious day and a fabulous wedding. They wanted something informal, fun and meaningful and I think that they got it. Lots of chats with the father of the groom working on his speech. Flowers, smiles, laughs ... the whole gambit ... lots of fun.
Alex was always going to swap her flowers for a drink. A fine day ... nb Tom's dark glasses! The Almiral de la Font, along with Val's planning made the entire wedding a joy, they seemed to love it and the readings were the icing on the cake: song lyrics "I've got you babe" and "Never going to give you up".
All good, they certainly seemed to enjoy themselves with endless banter from the crowd and lots of chat between the two of them. Unfortunately no time to get a photo at the end, they disappeared.
A glorious day and fabulous venue: Masa Casa de Mar, in Sant Pere de Ribes. All perfectly organised by Barcelona Brides. Tim, who nearly became Tom, but that is another story, and Jenny were delighted with everything ... music by Swite Duo once again.
I love this photo, Tim. is just behind organising the dress.
My first fully 50/50 bilingual wedding of the year ... Mexican Carolina married Swedish Emilio. A burning hot day and what's more in the midday sun but we managed it and all seemed very happy, twas fun.
So it just had to be on super hot Saturday that I had not one but two weddings. Alice and Andrew were stars from the start with lots of fun material to make their wedding, it was one of those that the more that is put in the more they get out! Having said that, with the heat and loosing my way and god knows what else, I managed to leave their certificate in the car so there was no signing, obviously the first time this has ever happened (and the last) but felt awful, Alice was very kind and promised that it didn't matter and that they had loved everything else.
Fabulous wedding in the Torre de Veguer surrounded by vines and wines and friends all pulling their weight ... it really was a lovely occasion, simply nothing more to add ...
A burning hot day but all fabulous, my first wedding in the very recommended This Must be the Place. It was, as I sometimes say in the ceremonies, just about as good as it gets. Liam managed to keep himself in order, as did Lucy.
Thanks to the pandemic lots of weddings have been rescheduled, reorganised and rethought ... this one nearly didn't happen, at least for me, having one earlier in the day but lots of hours behind the wheel were truly compensated, it was a joy as were Naomi and Dan, their families and friends. Lots of lovely feedback before getting back behind the wheel but all very very good! Once again in the Castell d'Emporda, once again great.
This was quite something else ... a vow reaffirmation and what a joy. Adam had organised it as surprise for Leann though she knew about it by the time she got to the glorious Biblioteca Almirall overlooking Barcelona in the shadow of Tibidabo. Their daughters Sarah and Catherine both read, Leann did some impro and made an impact and Adam had supplied me with the information for the ceremony. Really well organised by Harel at Luxury Weddings Barcelona who I have not seen for a year or two ... see the pics ... all said.
We first met back in 2019, had dates in both 2020 and 2021 and finally made it today! Since all of this started these two have managed to produce their daughter Lowie. Twas a great day, once again with Swite Duo playing the music in La Garriga de Castelladral. This is now the second wedding that has asked to finish on a song, the first was some years ago in the Almiral de la Font in Sitges where we sang Sweet Caroline and it was fab, this wedding ended with Ain't no Mountain High Enough and again ... a show stopper.
They married in the woods of Castellterçol, at El Munt, beautiful shady ceremony, reading by mothers, all just perfect, Charlotte was in floods of tears at the start but we managed to make her smile and I am sure she really enjoyed the whole thing, as we all did. Organised by Barcelona Brides.
Never have I ever ... been sent so much input from a couple, what a joy to work my way through it all to make something fun and meaningful. This was always going to be about the two of them and they were fabulous ... organised perfectly by Linda from bettertogetherweddings all went just about as well as it could have done! A joy from start to finish.
I have been told by my blog that I have reached the maximum storage for photos ... pity but they are on Instagram ... @tobyweddings. Their's was fabulous with Chris holding the flowers and grabbed just before their 3 year old son Cruz, who played a big part in the ceremony, telling his mother to come and sit down just as they were exchanging rings, came in to the shot. Perfectly done by Sonia from Yes I Do, who I haven't seen for years and the music of Tu Musical Events, who I haven't seen either but for less time, all in the fabulous Castell de Sant Marçal, great.
What a wedding and what a place! Lilia and Ramon tied the knot as close and as you can get to the beach at Vilanova without actually being on it: El Xalet del Nin . It was basically in Spanish and English with lots of other input in French and was a magnificent affair! All of their feedback has been hugely positive ... all much enjoyed by all.
Another delayed Covid wedding but what a wedding! A first for me ... I got to welcome in Hungarian, a real milestone. It was such fun and the Far del Llafranc is such a wonderful place. Jack and Lucy seemed delighted as did their families and we found that balance between a fun celebration and something with the weight of wedding ... all in all glorious. Once again I have to send you to my instagram: @tobyweddings, for pictures, have just put too many on this blog.
I find it so frustrating not to be able to put photos here anymore, might have to start looking for solutions because this venue was worth seeing: Castell de Tamarit. It is a long drive from home but right next to the beach, salty sea breezes, and a fabulous setting. Australia meets England as Daniel and Robyn tied the knot, I had a grandmother who insisted she would cry for me too ... and she really did. Once again check out instagram to see their pics. Fabulous music by Nuria Grima and images from Sergio Bakker.
A glorious sunny day with a sea breeze made this wedding in the Almiral de la Font just about perfect. Ok so I had to wait until the night before, and what's more a WhatsApp voice message, to get Juri's info but I did, and we did and so all was good. Beautiful string quartet (La Musiqueta) played throughout the ceremony and the cocktail saw the arrival of my favourite musicians (Tu Musica Events). All perfectly arranged by Val who simply said ... "how did I do this when I was pregnant" a mystery I don't understand either.
What a joy, laughs from start to end, Dan even made me do a bit as Martin Luther King, a first. Their children were great, Natalie and Jude doing what they ought, and all the rest seemed in fine fettle. Perfectly organised by Val, in a wonderful venue "This Must be the Place" very near to my house and very much recommended. All in all ... and once again ... perfect.
What a day, what a place ... what an adorable couple ... honestly a joy from start to finish in the beautiful Hermita de Santa Cristina, all perfectly organised by Mireia, the big boss of Coco and Carl, who I married so many years ago. I only wish I could still put pictures up here but there will be a big post on Instagram so check it out. What a great day and the feedback was constant and not very good for me ... left me floating. Carolina and Peter were sooo pleased that it just makes everything sooo worthwhile.
Today promised rain, there were even umbrellas at the ceremony but it stayed dry for Lisa and Geoff and the children. Twas great and very much appreciated by all and sunder from the reactions afterwards. Organised by Marta and Mireia, Coco and Carl, in the always lovely Casa Felix ... doesn't get much better than this ...
A glorious day in the glorious Far de Llafranc, there was a bit of everything, especially Catalan and English ... once again see Insta for pictures.
I am becoming Mr.Bilingual weddings, once again Keith, who met Sonia in the Far East, and Sonia who met him in the same place, wanted to marry half in English and half in Catalan ... so they did. I was accompanied by my boy on keyboard who did a fabulous job, even got a tip at the end, by which time I was home and toasting the couple with a G&T ... they deserved it.
This was a wedding that came almost out of the blue, Rachel had been ill so any contact before seemed impossible, in fact I saw the couple for the first time at the alter! Always a pity when you can't do the footwork to make something meaningful and, as I say in all the blurb ... all about you!!!! Ah well, the seemed to enjoy and in the end what more do we want.
Very very very hot ... but great. Bobby and Catherine really enjoyed their wedding as did their guests and all was just about as good as it gets. Had lovely WhatsApp messages from them afterwards (see here), it was one of those days when photographers highjacks the couple and so I didn't get to say goodbye.
Jodie and Glen married in Masia Casanova in Vora Sitges, the first time I had been here and it looked fab. All organised by Cristina from Sibarum Catering and everything went like a dream. Lots of crowd participation in the form of lots of babies but all good ... the more the merrier.
A great day at the Castell d'Emporda, even a little wind to take some of the heat off. Danny and Alanna were perfect, lots of children "putting their oar in" but all happily received. Had to deal with lots of Irish names though it turned out the one thing I simply couldn't get right was "pergola" ... or as it is said away from these shores "per-goal-a" whilst in Spain it is a "per-go-la". All good though
This was one to remember ... Carl and Danny, their 3 daughters, their family and their friends were going to make a party of this whatever ... and they did. It was in the Villa Catalina near Sant Pere de Ribes owned and run by Servais who I saw when leaving. Servais and I were chatting about one thing and another and I said "must be five years since I married you", to which he replied ... "it was in 2014" ... how time flies, 8 years later and he told me that they are still very very happy. Obviously this has nothing to do with me but it is always good to know, by the looks of Danny and Carla they will still be dancing in 2030 too! A joy.
Timing, the art of humour and weddings is in the timing! It was a hot, humid, overcast day and we were all a bit worried about the rain, we managed the whole ceremony, the kiss, the walk down the aisle and once everyone was enjoying the aperitif under the pergola the heavens opened. It was pretty much perfect though Anthony was suffering from the heat but he kept it together beautifully as did Emma, their 9 month old boy Beau was the ring bearer and was as good as they come ... altogether another great day at the Castell d'Emporda.
Once again ... just a reminder, you will find pictures on instagram. This was a lovely wedding at Casa Felix, looked like it wanted to rain but didn't. Nearly married Joanne to Nick but Tim was quick off the mark and all went as planned. Sarah did a glorious reading and 90 year old grandmother approved. Even got Joanne's best side throughout ... though they both looked good to me.
Well that was something else, what a venue: Hostal la Gavin and what a day. Everything was beautiful even though it turned out that communication problems between bride and groom meant that he said yes in Swedish and she in English but the most important thing is that they. said yes ... in whatever language. All beautifully organised by Sonia at Barcelona Wedding.
Colourful ... I have to say that this was probably the most colourful wedding I have done this year. Barcelona Brides made a venue that looked superb and Laura and George were as good as they come, you must see the photos in instagram, they are fab. The Almiral de la Font was a perfect setting.
What hugs I got from bride and groom when all was done and dusted ... makes it all worthwhile ... xxxx.
The wind blew, just enough to keep the heat off, and Max waited for my sign to turn and see Samantha walk down the aisle, not a dry eye in the house. A great day, even had effusive hugs from family afterwards. Looks like the end of August is a good time for hugs, too hot before. All very much enjoyed.
What a joy, what fun. As Flor said when talking during the ceremony there are at least 65 countries where this simply couldn't happen and that is wrong! It was a glorious celebration of love from start to finish. All held in Can Bonsatre Wine Resort and perfectly organised by Linda. I even got to speak a new language today ... Faroese, a piece of cake!!!! Thank you Sofia and Jeanett.
Lovely wedding in the perfect venue (Xalet del Nin) overlooking the beach at Vilanova perfectly organised by Val once again. Looked like it might rain but it was just perfect ... even got a breeze. Alexandra ... beautiful and Charlie with a grin soooo wide nothing was going to stop them having the time of their lives.
This was very much a last minute wedding stepping in for someone else but it just had to be a Norwegian couple with the bride called Martine, tomorrow I have another, also Norwegian couple and the bride also called Martine, it does seem to happen to me a lot. However I didn't get anyone confused with anyone else and all seemed perfect. Just 6 guests who all witnessed the event on the balcony of the Hotel Miramar overlooking Barcelona ... prefect!
Well that was quite some wedding. It all started with shots and just carried on in the same vein. Everyone very much up for fun, loads of participation, very happy crowd and very happy couple as I left! I was happy too.
It's not often you can say that you married Morgan Freeman (to Allan) but today I can. A late start but perfect last day of summer, a breeze blew and their guests were in fine form. All ... as good as it gets in the fabulous Castell de Sant Marçal organised by Rebecca from Barcelona Brides.
Just them, their 4 parents, 2 Italian video/photo people and me ... a lovely afternoon in the Parc del Laberint d'Horta and all just about perfect. K & J wanted to elope to Spain and they did and the park was just about the best setting to have had, with the heat now off the summer, in fact we are in autumn now, it was a joy from start to finish.
Everything pointed to rain for this bi-lingual Cuban/American wedding in the fabulous Convent de Blanes ... but no. We started half an hour late and I was sure the skies would open but they didn't. Can't make promises for the rest of the evening but my part was dry. Smashing couple who really went to town with the aid of Mireia who planned perfectly ... they were always going to make a day to remember.
So this was wedding nº 350 since starting this blog 10 years ago or so ... a mile stone.
Just a reminder that they will no longer let me post pictures here on the blog, I have used up all of my credit on that front but you can find them on Instagram.
Today was a fabulous autumn day ... warm and sunny but not too hot. Jamie and Sian were perfect, his mum, doing the reading, threatened to laugh and in the end shed a tear. All in the magnificent surroundings of Mas Torroella, Silvia's wonderful place where I will be going in a couple of weeks for Emily and Michael's wedding.
The forecast said rain but for Anne-Claire and Sebastiaan this was always going to be walk in the park ... easy solution ... wait, and we did just that. After wiping down the seats half an hour later we had a wedding in the sun, there were some dramatic clouds, but no more rain. Anne-Claire's father was looking at me somewhat strangely during the ceremony which I only understood when he got up to speak, it seems I had stolen his speech, this has happened before in weddings but I usually don't see it ... there were speeches during dinner while the Dutch will often include speeches in the ceremony. There were no hard feelings though, just the opposite ... all great. Today I saw a new venue: Mas Bosc, beautiful, great setting, very rural ... check it out.
Wow ... what a wedding and what a venue!!!! Kiera and Paul wanted to do something different ... just them in a fabulous place organised by Harel the whole thing was totally dreamlike. Masia Cabellut was the setting, a wine/olive oil producing finca opened this year, beautifully decorated with wonderful spaces and all you could ask for. The fact that I bought both wine and oil after having tasted it has nothing to do with this glowing recommendation.
Brazilian/Swiss gal meets Indian/American guy in the UK, they were at a Chinese New Year's party chatting about her Arabic classes, now they live in the US but married in Bell Recó, Spain ... I do believe that that counts as truly international. A great ceremony, lots of input from the father of the groom, Manoj, fabulous music from La Musiqueta, perfectly organised by Mireia from Coco and Carl ... all in all ... very good!
Autumn married in Autumn but it really felt like summer, hot hot hot. This was held in Masia Mas Santos, but if you ever go there make sure you don't put Masia Mas Santos in google but rather Mas Santos, enough said, I made it and all was great. Spoke my first words in Ukrainian in a ceremony also peppered with Spanish ... all very International. Jess was unhand from Happy Endings Barcelona to organise with Marcos shooting the whole thing.
This was to happen on 10/10/20 but things went strange ... as we all know, but it gave them time to get a place in Andorra and what's so much more important make baby Ari. The ceremony started late, Ari was hungry, but the pay off was he slept throughout. It was joyous, a beautiful day, even had the pleasure of meeting up with Jolien and Andrew who I married quite a few years back. This was my second cyclist's wedding, there is a big cycling community in Girona, and these were big fish! Once again ... a great day.
Definitely this year's most colourful couple, please head over to my instagram page (@tobyweddings) to see them ... Lexi bright pink hair, Andy bright blue. They were fabulous from start to finish, it was just the 3 of us and was a true celebration of their intimate love of each other. What's more this was their first time over from the States and the beginning of their Spanish tour ... I am sure they will enjoy ... I certainly did.
What a great way to end the year. This was going to be just the two of them and it started to grow and grow and grow. In the end there were families and friends from South Africa, others came via Italy, there were yet more friends from Belgium and a few more from the UK. The plan was perfect, Par del Laberint d'Horta. For what seems like months we have been watching the weather forecast crossing everything agains rain but not counting on the wind. To tell you the truth it really didn't feel that windy but Barcelona City Council decided to close all parks today in case of falling branches. Ever light on our feet, Heidi, the photographer and I, moved the venue to a children's park just next to the Laberint and all was just perfect! A great day for a couple who had put so much time and effort in to planning their wedding and making a wonderful day for all! Just the best way to finish the year.
